Writing an Introduction to an Admission Essay

Here is one thing. The admission committee reads hundreds of admission essays every day. When reading the twentieth essay, they are ready to predict what it is going to be about. This is all because of typical admission essay introductions. If you want to be the one and only, you have to take care of this part of your admission essay and make it unique and original.

Okay, one of a kind, to make your first steps in writing admission essay introductions, mind this:

  1. An admission essay introduction has to be free from grammar and punctuation errors. What will the committee think of a person who cannot avoid mistakes in the first several sentences of his/her admission essay? We do not think that such impression will be positive.
  2. An admission essay introduction should not start with clichés and typical beginnings. So, rather consider starting with “My IQ is low” than from “Since the beginning of times it is commonly know that…”
  3. An admission essay introduction has to be written in a simple, easy language. Do not read Sophocles before writing, please.

The most important thing in an admission essay introduction is a thesis statement. It is an about two-sentence essence of your writing. There are three rules to writing a thesis statement:

  • It has to be brief and concise.
  • It has to state the main idea of your writing.
  • It has to be in the beginning of your admission essay introduction.

After you write a thesis statement, the rest of the admission essay has to be tied to it in one way or another. Sometimes it is easier to write a thesis statement on a separate piece of paper and place it in front of you while writing your admission essay, so that the situation stays under your control all the time.
